A New Vision for Learning

Kaulike Academy provides a learner-driven, community-rooted space for teens ages 13–19 who are seeking something different from traditional schooling. There are no teachers here—only mentors, guides, and tutors who are placed strategically to support youth where help is needed, while ensuring students remain in charge of their own learning.

At Kaulike, teens don’t just participate — they manage, lead, and run programs that set our academy apart. These include Tech Savvy Teens, which bridges generations through free tech support for kūpuna; ʻŌpio Mākeke, a youth-run pop-up market that cultivates entrepreneurship; and Keiki Rise, an accelerator led by young entrepreneurs who mentor their peers in launching and growing businesses.

Our learners also gain career exposure through apprenticeships and internships, while receiving mentorship from trusted guides and kūpuna. Every project is learner-led, giving students the freedom to pursue their passions while developing leadership, purpose, and independence. Enrollment is open year-round, offering every young person the chance to thrive in a safe, inclusive, and culturally connected environment.

What makes Kaulike unique is its focus on kuleana—responsibility to self, family, and community. Students exchange tuition for service hours, giving back through community events, mentorship, and support for local initiatives. This model not only makes learning accessible, but also teaches youth the importance of service, reciprocity, and collective care.

Our studio is also a hub for cultural connection. Hawaiian values shape everything we do, from the way students collaborate to the way they learn from kūpuna. Whether it’s through mālama ʻāina projects, cultural arts, or simply practicing aloha in daily interactions, Kaulike youth stay rooted in identity while preparing for modern challenges.

Most importantly, Kaulike is youth-led and youth-run. Teens here aren’t waiting to grow up to make an impact—they are creating businesses, mentoring peers, and solving community challenges now. By trusting young people with leadership, Kaulike Academy empowers them to step into adulthood with confidence, vision, and the skills to thrive in Hawaiʻi and beyond.
